Milka Suchard

$2,100.00

Philippe Suchard, founder of his eponymous chocolate company, is a Swiss legend: the father of Switzerland's reputation for premium chocolates. From the age of 12, he recognized the potential for chocolate as a major industry, but he struggled for years until 1842, when a bulk order arrived from Frederick WIlliam IV, King of Prussia. Perhaps as a result of the royal commission, he chose the color purple for the packaging, believing – correctly – that it would be unique on the market. By the end of the 19th century, Suchard had become the largest chocolate producer. In 1901, Suchard created the famous Milka chocolate specifically for the Swiss market.
